I am marked

As if a the tail of a scorpion
As if a shoe lace
As if a snake
Or the tracks of the railway

Crooked red-brown broken marks
Three inches in the left
Four inches in the right foot
Three inches in the wrist

Bruised red skin
Swollen up in parts
Talking more of injury
Than recovery perhaps

Someone asked me recently
Which pain is worse
Of the body or the mind?
Which hurts?
More?
